The Craziness of August

It seems like I was just writing about August beginning, and now I'm writing about the end of August!

August Highlights:

The Great Flood of 2016:
Well, to be quite honest, this past month was crazy. All of the flooding down here caused the weeks to become a unscheduled blur of serving meals, gutting houses, and doing school on top of it! (Well, we did take one week off right after all the flooding first started happening.)
It was probably the worst natural disasters I have ever seen, and seeing people's lives on the curb, waiting for the garbage trucks to come take their things away has been simply heartbreaking.

But through all this, the church has stepped up, come together, and shared the love of Jesus in many, many ways. We will come out of this stronger.

My Birthday:
As I said, with all of the flooding craziness, schedules and routines were thrown out of the window the first couple weeks of this month, but for my birthday we still were able to celebrate by picking up dinner (and cake and ice cream!) and having a fun family evening. One of my favorite birthday traditions is when we have cake, we go around the table and everyone tells one memory they have of the person whose birthday it is.
And with some of the birthday money I received from relatives, I will hopefully be ordering a few things I've been wanting soon, mainly a book and a CD... :D

Work:
I STARTED MY FIRST REAL JOB LAST WEEK! Eek! I must admit, I was quite terrified at first, but my sister(s) were able to train me, so that made it a lot less nerve-wracking, and it wasn't as scary as I imagined. :) Although it is very tiring... Especially those days I have to get up at 4:30 am. -.-

WorkOUT:
So, to those of you who don't know, our family has a favorite TV show: American Ninja Warrior. Have any of you seen it? We don't watch much television, but this show is a definite exception! Every Monday night, we are all downstairs in front of the TV. My sisters and I sometimes get a little...um...loud.
Anyway, if you haven't heard of the show, here's a video of a favorite competitor/friend of ours, Joe Moravsky, from this year's qualifying (first) round:

Isn't his daughter Emily the most adorable child ever??

Ridiculous, isn't it? The courses only get harder!

Anyway, the point of this highlight was to explain what I've been doing exercise-wise. Well, I haven't been completely consistent, but trying to keep up basic stretching/exercising. There's actually a gym about an hour from us that has obstacles from the show for training. We've been several times and it's been so much fun! There's going to be a competition taking place there in October (part of a nationwide comp), and I'm thinking about entering for the teen division! (My sister and cousin are going to be entering in the adult group.)

Writing:
Again, with the craziness of the month, writing was put to the side. Things are still busy, but not quite as hectic, so I'm hoping to get myself back into the groove of writing. I started a new story recently that I'd really like to get done. Must...make...myself...write...
I hate when I have the time but not the motivation to write. Must overcome it and WRITE ON! :D

September (overview):

I have a feeling September will be a very busy month, too! I'm helping my dad coach my youngest brother's flag football team, and as there were very few coaches in that age group, it will only be me and my dad trying to herd 13 seven through nine year olds! (Which will be fun, but probably crazy, too! :D) Then there's school and work and church stuff... All fun, but altogether makes for a busy life! Oh, the joys of growing up. :)

September - Other Things

I'm excited for this event! It looks like so much fun! Any and all book lovers are invited!

Writing Goals:
This month I'm going to try and write a minimum of 4,000 words (hopefully all on the main story I'm working on at them moment). I know it doesn't sound like a lot, but any writing is better than no writing and being accountable to all you readers at the end of September may help motivate me to meet the goal! :D
Blessing Counter did something like this on her blog last month, so I'm sort of stealing it from her (hope you don't mind, Blessing! lol).

Blogging:
Blogging-wise, I do want to try to post more often... No promises, but I'll try my best! I love doing writing tags (any tag, actually), so you might be seeing more of those! Also, I want to share a couple of snippets from my stories and characters, and probably a bunch of other random things!

All right, I think that's just about everything for August's highlights! How was this past month for all of you? What are you looking forward to this coming month?

Onward to September!

The Three Day Quote Tag - Day Three

Here we are on the final day of The Three Day Quote Tag. Thanks again to Kaitlyn for tagging me! It was a lot of fun! :)

Day Three Quote:

Also, I start my new job tomorrow (at 5:30 am!), so if you happen to think about it, please pray for me! I will update on how it goes later. :)

The Three Day Quote Tag - Day Two

Here's my second quote for The Three Day Quote Tag (sorry it's a little late!):

-Audrey Hepburn

No matter the circumstance, with God, anything is possible!

Things with the flooding down here are still pretty crazy; we've all been going nonstop the past week, but were still able to take a little time to celebrate my sixteenth birthday (what?!?), and through it all, we have not forgotten that God is with us in this storm! I am so thankful that we did not get any water in our home, but my hearts breaks for those who were not quite as fortunate. The community is so amazing, however! Neighbors helping neighbors, strangers helping strangers; it's incredible to see everyone coming together even through this difficult time!

(Not the best picture (I couldn't crop it better), but crazy!)

This song by Casting Crowns has really been on my heart during this time. No matter what, we need to praise God through this (literal) storm!

All righty, well, I'm off! Hopefully I can get the last quote up tomorrow! :D

The Three Day Quote Tag - Day One

Hey everybody!

My apologies for disappearing again... All of this flooding going on where I live is completely nuts, and has kept me busy at church packing and delivering food and such to those in need (or those helping those in need). :) We are very blessed that our house has not flooded.

Anyway, Kaitlyn at Twin Thoughts tagged me in The Three Day Quote Tag!  Thanks for tagging me, Kaitlyn!

Here are the rules:

1. Thank the person who tagged you
2. Nominate three new bloggers every day
3. Post a new quote every day for three consecutive days

I know most of my blogger friends have already been tagged, so instead of tagging people, I'm just going to say that whoever wants to do this tag, well, YOU'VE BEEN TAGGED!!!

Okay, now onto the quote(s)!

There are just so many quotes of which I can think, I'm not sure how I can decide on just three, so maybe I'll bend the rules a little and do three each day, instead of one every day for three days! :P

This is one of my favorite quotes by George Washington (and he sure had a lot of great ones!):

So true!

I really like this one! :) Plus the pic is super cool-looking! ;P

And this last quote is one of my favorites!

Amen!

That's it for today, guys! No promises that I'll end up finishing this tag in the three consecutive days with us being so busy and all, but I'll try! Blessings!

The Random Writer's Tag

Happy Monday!

I'm back today with a fun tag for writers! And I'm tagging these amazing fellow bloggers (if they'd like to do it as well):
Jesseca
Blessing Counter
Faith P.
Lydia Dyslin

So this tag is made up of eight random questions for writers... Hope you enjoy! :D

1. If you could pick one (yes, only one) of your characters to meet in real life, who would it be and why?
Oh, I hate questions like these! There are so many of my characters I'd love to meet! Some of my characters are actually based off of people I know in real life, so I sort of already know some of my characters! ;P  But I would really like to meet a character of mine from a new story I've just recently begun working on: Ryder Mathis, a young Marine. :) (Yes, I know the uniform is an Air Force uniform, but in my story he's a Marine.) ;D And the reason why I'd like to meet him? I dunno, he just seems like a really awesome guy! (I mean, I created him, so of course he's awesome! Just joking! Although in my opinion he is pretty awesome.)

2. What kind of relationship do you enjoy writing about most? (Brother-brother, friend-friend, romance, etc.)
Okay, big brother-little sister, hands down. Buuuut I also really really like writing brother-brother relationships and maybe every once in a while a bit of romance. ;)

3. Describe your favorite setting in which to write.
Sitting on a comfy chair with some snacks on one side (why is food so good??), my dog on the other, my earbuds in and a thunderstorm going on outside. For some reason I just love love love writing during thunderstorms!

4. When/where do you usually get inspiration for your stories when you're stuck?
A lot of different places... But I seem to do my best thinking in the shower or at night when I'm trying to go to sleep.

5. How important are names to you in your books? Do you choose the names based on liking the way it sounds or the meaning?
I usually tend to choose names for my characters based on the way they sound, but I also try to pick names that have meanings that go with their personalities.

6. What are some of your favorite character names?

Well, I like all of my character names (unless maybe they're names for bad guys), but a few of my top favorites are probably Cass, Bryce, Ryder, Julie, Micah, Jeanette (Jet), Gator, Dustin... Okay, I'll stop now...
I also have a couple of names 'on hold' right now, so to speak. They're names I really like but haven't decided on a character to fit the name or which story to put them in! Judah and Drew... :D

7. What/Who inspired you to start writing?
Honestly, I always enjoyed writing little stories, even from the time I was young. I remember writing one-paged stories based off of TV shows I liked. My oldest sister loves writing, too, and she got me interested in NaNoWrimo, and that's when I really got serious and started writing longer, original stories. :)

8. And finally, would you rather never read another book or never write another story?
AUGHHHHHH! Why do I have to answer this?!?!? Although, I suppose never reading another book would be a better option because then you could write as many stories as you want and go back and read those, so at least there would be something to read! (It didn't say you couldn't reread your own stories! Haha.) :P

Here's a clean copy of the questions:
1. If you could pick one (yes, only one) of your characters to meet in real life, who would it be and why?
2. What kind of relationship do you enjoy writing about most? (Brother-brother, friend-friend, romance, etc.)
3. Describe your favorite setting in which to write.
4. When/where do you usually get inspiration for your stories when you're stuck?
5. How important are names to you in your books? Do you choose the names based on liking the way it sounds or the meaning?
6. What are some of your favorite character names?

7. What/Who inspired you to start writing?
8. And finally, would you rather never read another book or never write another story?

And that's it for now! Have an amazing week, everyone!

August is Here!

I can't believe it's already August! This year has definitely been flying by!

I meant to get this posted yesterday, but we were on our way home from a weekend trip, so it's a day late. Oops. :) (I have to say, though, when we got back, my turtles were the happiest little critters ever! Sketcher just kept on zooming around the tank, and Drechsel swam up to the edge when I called its name to greet me! They're so adorable. :D)

So, August...

There are some things I'm looking forward to this month, but also things I'm not quite so excited about this month.

First off, my birthday is coming up in a couple of weeks! I'm not exactly sure yet what we'll be doing to celebrate, but I'm sure it will be fun!

But... Along with growing up comes responsibilities... Lots of them. Less than a week after I turn 16, I'll be starting my first 'real' job at a fast food restaurant. Two of my sisters have been working there for several years already, so being able to be trained by them will be nice, but I am SOOO nervous! I'm very much a perfectionist, so the thought that I might do something wrong and mess up makes scares me probably more than it should, plus the fact that I don't do well in high-pressure, fast-paced situations unless I know exactly what I'm doing won't help much... All I can say is please pray for me! I am not looking forward to it...
And who knows? Maybe I'll love it and wonder why I was so worried. But, at the moment, I am pretty terrified, so... ;p

Other than that, I don't think anything else big will be going on this month. We started school back up last week, so trying to settle back into that! It's been pretty good so far. I think I have to say American History is my favorite subject. The curriculum I'm using this year actually combines three subjects into one! (Bible, history, and English!)

The weather is still ridiculously hot and humid, and we've been having a bit of rain lately. I'm excited for fall to come and the weather to cool down so I can wear hoodies and fuzzy socks! Haha ;)

I plan to get back into the groove of writing and making myself get stuff done! I started on a new story, but still have one that I haven't finished that I need to... And lots of research for both stories is involved. Yikes!

I'm also hoping to write a bunch of fun blog posts for this month. I have a couple of ideas, so stay tuned! :)

All right, well, I'm going to head out for now! God bless!
